How do I look after my artwork?

Your artwork will be created using artist quality pastels on Pastelmat paper. To maintain the quality of your piece, please follow these care instructions:

  • Display away from direct sunlight and heat.

  • Do not display in kitchens, bathrooms or high moisture areas.

  • During storage and delivery your artwork will be protected by a glassine sheet. Please leave this in place until you are ready to frame your piece.

  • Only frame under glass to protect the pastel surface.

  • When framing, handle with care as touching the drawing surface may smudge or move the pastels.

How do I pay?

After the consultation process you will be sent a link for payment of the 50% nonrefundable deposit. I will not begin planning or drawing until a deposit has been paid. Upon completion, you will be sent a photo of your drawing. Once you have approved the final version of the drawing you will be sent a link to pay the remainder of your balance including any additional postage charges. Your drawing will be posted once the final balance has been paid.

How do you work out the price?

All the prices for my artwork are worked out based on how many hours they take. This will vary for each portrait so I go by the average time for a particular size plus a £10 materials cost. My prices reflect the hourly minimum wage in the UK.

How do I choose a reference photo?

To achieve a beautiful realistic portrait it is best to use a high quality photograph taken in natural light/day light. If you are able to take a photograph of your pet, I would recommend sitting them calmly facing a window, but not in direct sunlight. Or have them sit down outside. It's best to take a photo at eye level with your pet, rather than looking down on them. That way you can capture the sparkle in their eyes!

Unfortunately, this is not always possible, especially if the pet has passed. If you are unsure about your reference photo please get in touch and I can give you more guidance. It helps if you send 3 or more photographs so I can understand your pet better and get a feel for their personality and characteristics. Below is an example of photographs I would and wouldn’t recommend using.

Bad picture - Blurred, not showing all features of the face, bad angle, artificial light (taken at night time).

Good picture - In focus, shows all features, good angle taken at pet eye level, taken in natural light

What materials do you use?

I use high quality artist soft pastels and pastel pencils on Clairfontaine Pastelmat paper.
